Who We Are

About CBS PEWOSA SACCO

A cooperative society under the Buganda Kingdom, delivering innovative financial services since 1996.

Our Story

Central Broadcasting Service Ltd (CBS) is a private limited liability media company incorporated in 1995, owned by the Kabaka of Buganda through the Buganda Investments and Commercial Undertakings Limited (BICUL). As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility mandate, CBS was supported by the Stromme Foundation to implement the CBS-PEWOSA Project.

CBS-PEWOSA was registered in 2014 as an NGO. The Project to Empower Women through Savings and Loan Associations (PEWOSA) became the forerunner of today's CBS PEWOSA SACCOs — facilitating communities to form self-selected groups of 30 people under the Community Managed Microfinance (CMMF) approach. These CMMF groups form the grassroots backbone of our savings and credit services.

Founded in 2015, CBS PEWOSA Nsindika Njake Eyeeterekera Cooperative Society Ltd was formally registered by the Registrar of Cooperatives (Reg. No. 10916/RCS, 23rd January 2018). As CMMF groups grew their money and membership, unification under one cooperative became the natural step.

Today, the SACCO is making 10 years in operation — serving over 10,000 members across 9,000+ CMMF groups, with 21 satellite offices throughout Uganda. Following the royal announcement of His Majesty Ssabasajja Kabaka Muwenda Mutebi to create SACCOs in every traditional county (Masaza) of Buganda, we continue to promote this vision with new Masaza SACCOs coming up across Uganda.

Ownership & Governance

CBS PEWOSA Nsindika Njake Eyeeterekera SACCO Ltd, following the membership resolution to transform into a SACCO, is registered as a SACCO (Reg. No. 10916/RCS, dated 23/01/2023). Our membership is based on individual shareholding — the SACCO is a "user-owned" institution, wholly owned by its members (shareholders).

Members elect a Board to oversee the business of the cooperative. The Board holds roles and responsibilities vested in it by the Annual General Meeting / Annual Delegates Meeting (AGM/ADM), the Supervisory Committee (SupCO), Board Committees, and Sub-committees.
